Geoff StackGeoffrey Stack MSc LEED AP

Geoff is a creative coordinator, educator and urban designer who has been immersed in the study and practice of sustainability, urban design and ecology for 14 years.  He holds deep knowledge of the applications and intricacies of The Natural Step Framework – a powerful tool for strategically moving business, municipalities and our society towards sustainability.

Emerging from his deep roots in the study of ecology and environmental science, Geoff’s professional career has focused on how to effectively create built environments that help us move towards sustainability, and beyond to regeneration.  As a project manager and LEED® Accredited Professional with EDAW and Wallace, Roberts & Todd, Geoff introduced whole-systems design approaches to collaborators while working on public open space, university campus and urban redevelopment efforts.

Within this work, he has collaborated with others to:

  • Write sustainability guidelines that outlined energy, water and material reduction measures for the construction of 4,000 residential units, 1.2 million square feet of office and retail space, and 65 acres of public park and open space for the Quarry Falls master plan in San Diego.
  • Manage the development of plans for the construction of $47 million in parks and streetscape improvements for the City of Chula Vista Eastern Urban Center Landscape Master Plan.
  • Design and illustrate site development plans for the new LEED® Silver certified headquarters of the United States Census Bureau in Suitland, Maryland.
  • Create detailed plans for the construction of a $6 million public park outside of the Muhammad Ali Center in Louisville, Kentucky.
  • Document certification points for LEED-ND® pilot project submittals.

Geoff earned a Master of Science in Strategic Leadership toward Sustainability from Blekinge Tekniska Högskola (Karlskrona, Sweden) in 2008, a degree program affiliated with The Natural Step. He also holds a Bachelors of Landscape Architecture and a certificate from the Environmental Studies scholars program at the University of Maryland (College Park, Maryland).  Geoff’s studies of ecology reach back to high school when he received top honors from the environmental science department for his research at Western School of Technology and Environmental Science (Catonsville, Maryland).

Geoff has also periodically tended to his green roots by teaching at the Ferry Beach Ecology School along the south coast of Maine.  Geoff currently serves as member of the Healthy and High Performance Schools committee of the Maryland chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council.  He regularly provides presentations on green business, The Natural Step Framework, integrative design and community development.
